DCC Email Best Practices |
We recommends the following best practices for DCC
Email. Users are encouraged to follow these
guidelines to ensure efficient email performance.
DCC email account offers SMTP, POP, IMAP, and
Webmail access. Individual emails including
attachments can be up to 5 MB in size. And DCC mail
server can store your mailbox up to a maximum quota
of 50 MB size. If your email quota is exceeded you
are notified via automated email alerts. And in
extreme cases when its size exceeds to the extent
that it effect the server performance for all users,
your mailbox will be automatically archived to you
Unix home directory and you will be sent an
automated alert email with a web link with which you
can access that moved mailbox via a Web Browser.
Kindly note that Unix quota is flexible and starts
with a default of 200 MB for faculty and staff.
Configure your email clients (MS Outlook, Outlook
Express, etc.) according to DCC IT recommendations.
Incoming Email Server for POP3 access :
mail.dcc.kfupm.edu.sa
KFUPM Incoming Email Server for POP3 access :
pop.kfupm.edu.sa
(Optional) Incoming Email Server for IMAP access
: mail.dcc.kfupm.edu.sa
(Optional) KFUPM Incoming Email Server for IMAP access
: imap.kfupm.edu.edu.sa
Outgoing Email Server with SMTP (it requires
authentication and uses the same LDAP Unix email
account as the incoming server):
mail.dcc.kfupm.edu.sa
KFUPM Outgoing Email Server with SMTP (it requires
authentication and uses the same LDAP Unix email
account as the incoming server):
smtp.kfupm.edu.sa
Individual Email size allowed is 5MB so configure to
break apart messages larger than 5000 Kbytes in
Outlook Express or other clients.
If you are checking email from office and home with
multiple computers then you may configure to leave a
copy on the server and delete after 3 to 5 days (for
automated client initiated mailbox management to
stay within Email quota).
DCC IT recommends you to keep your server Mailbox
Low and within quota of 50 MB for best performance
in accessing your emails.
